Micropigmentation, also known as permanent makeup, is a cosmetic procedure designed to mimic traditional make up using mineral based pigments deposited into the dermal layer of the skin. Creating essentially, a tattoo. This process is considered permanent and therefore can last for years. The benefits can have dramatic consequences for both men and women for cosmetic as well as medical reasons.
By inserting mineral pigments with tiny needles into the dermal layer of the skin, Micropigmentation can simulate brow hairs, design different eyeliner looks, and can also create a myriad of lipstick effects. Derma pigmentation is used to describe the same technique, only it's applied to skin that has been medically altered or to scar tissue. Areola restoration post -mastectomy, cleft lip, prominent scars due to surgery or accidents, are all examples of cases that can benefit from derma pigmentation. Although similar to traditional tattooing, it is less invasive and uses specially formulated inks specifically targeted for the unique properties of the facial skin and other delicate areas of the body. The procedure can be performed in a permanent makeup studio, a med spa, doctors office, or in a properly licensed tattoo parlor. The state of New Jersey prohibits these procedures being performed in hair salons, nail salons, or any other establishment that offers cosmetology services since the threat of cross contamination is very high and can cause injury. Client safety is always the first priority. Hence the proper screening of a potential client should be customary and thorough. Discussions pertaining to contraindications, topical anesthetics and proper before and aftercare are an absolute must.
Permanent makeup is an excellent option for both women and men alike. It is a wonderful way to improve your hairline, brows, lips, eyes, and more. It can be a game-changer for those experiencing allergies to traditional make up, those with physical limitations or people with impaired vision. However, for those living with medical diagnoses such as Alopecia, Lupus, Trichotillomania, Thyroid disease, and a host of other medical conditions that can effect hair loss, it can be life changing.
Since these procedures are delicate in nature it is imperative to find a specialist who is highly trained in both micropigmentation and dermapigmentation to address your cosmetic and/or medical needs. He/she should entertain all your questions and address all of your concerns at the initial consultation. This is where you'll determine your level of comfort with your practitioner as well as the office environment.
Some clients will require two or more treatments to achieve their desired results, and some color will gradually fade over time requiring additional treatments to maintain your look. However, be sure to ask all of your questions at your initial consultation in order to stay fully informed and become actively involved throughout the entire process.
